Khayelihle University of Spiritual Growth

Khayelihle Congregation started off as a preaching place which assembled at Saphinda Primary School,
Q Section, Umlazi, for its worship services held every Sunday. It moved to its permanent home situated
at 6 Phahla Street, Q Section Umlazi, in 1971. The founding Congregational Chairperson was Mr Gideon
Mlondo, who alongside his wife Mrs Doreen Mlondo (uMaKhanyile) and the respective Congregational Councils played a crucial role of ensuring the
existence of sound governance and leadership excellence until he handed the baton over to his successor
Mr Khayelihle Mpungose 14 years ago.

The KUSG mission complex (auditorium, offices and parsonage) was financially brought to fruition through the
contributions made by German-based Church of Hessen-Waldeck, which was represented by G. Bezzenberger on the
occasion of its dedication which took place on 10 October 1971.

As a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (ELCSA), KUSG teaches the Gospel of the Kingdom of
God based on the Biblical principles which were revealed by the Holy Spirit to Professor Martin Luther that salvation
comes by grace alone, faith alone, Scripture alone and Christ alone to the glory of God the Father!

KUSG serves under the spiritual leadership of Reverend CJ Mthethwa who is the Parish Priest of Durban South Parish.
The Congregation was rebranded in 2011 when it celebrated its 40th Anniversary

A UNIVERSITY OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH

KUSG is affectionately known as a ‘University of Spiritual Growth’ due to its total commitment to the advancement
of the Kingdom of God. KUSG provides a vibrant platform to its members to grow in their knowledge of God on a personal
level. A typical worship service held every Sunday at 9 AM is chacterised by the Lutheran liturgy and a blend of praise
and worship preceding the sermon.

Weekly sessions of King Jesus Bible Study are held on Mondays at 6 PM to 8 PM; this practice has been consistently
implemented since May 2016. Furthermore, Kingdom Revival Conferences and night prayers have been held
biannually since 2014.
